In August 2008, Mr. Hennie den Toom took over as Managing Director. He is forthcoming out of the Damen Shipyards Group, the Joint Venture partner of Albwardy Marine Engineering.
Joint Venture success
The Joint Venture with Damen Shipyards results in a continuous flow of incoming new building orders for Albwardy Marine Engineering.
Since January 2008 the new building order book showed substantial growth and consists at present of 9 units Damen Stan Tug 1606, 1 Damen CSD 500 Cutter suction dredger, 1 Damen Multi Cat 1506.
Some of these new vessels will be operating in the UAE.
This is in addition to the 2 Multi Purpose Anchor Handling Vessels contracted by A.M.E. earlier and the 5 Nakilat-Svitzer-Wijsmuller tugs delivered earlier this year.
All new contracts are well on schedule and more new building contracts are expected before the end of this year.
Damen CSD 500 dredgerAlbwardy Marine Engineering has been awarded a contract to build a Cutter Suction Dredger CSD500 for the Damen Shipyards Group. A keel-laying ceremony was held at AME’s yard in Al Jadaf on 1 June 2008.

The CSD 500 can dredge a depth of minimum 1.5m to maximum of 14m using a cutter ladder of heavy gauge steel pipe with a cutter unit.
The dredging installation consists of a dredge pump with a mixture capacity 4,000 m3/hr and is installed on main pontoon. The dredge pump is driven by one CAT3512B TA engine developing 954 kW at 1600 rpm. The auxiliary power is provided by one CAT 3406C TA engine developing 345 kW at 1800rpm.
Delivery is expected to take place in 2008 and talks for the construction of another two more units have commenced
Multi Purpose Anchor Handling VesselsTeam Shipping awarded Albwardy Marine Engineering a contract to build two (2) 29m Multi Purpose tug vessels.


The keel-laying ceremony was held at the Drydocks World yard in Al Jadaf on 2 January 2008.
Meanwhile the construction is well advancing and delivery is expected to take place within 2008.
Albwardy relocating to Dubai Maritime CityLike all other companies operating from the Al Jadaf Yard of Dubai Drydocks World (DDW), Albwardy Marine Engineering will be relocating to Dubai Maritime City (DMC). The relocation recently, as announced by DDW has been postponed until somewhere in 2009.
Albwardy’s new facility will include both ship repair & extensive latest state of the art ship new building facilities.
DMC is an integrated maritime development of the Government of Dubai on a man-made peninsula.
Tugs for Nikilat Svitzer-Wijsmuller
June 2007:Albwardy Marine Engineering earlier this year completed the new building of 5 tugs for Nakilat-Svitzer Wijsmuller (the joint venture company set-up by Svitzer Wijsmuller and Qatar Gas Transport Company - Nakilat), in a major contract worth AED 25 million.
On 26 Dec 2007, the first 15m Harbour Mooring boat (RL-30) was delivered. The remaining 4 boats were delivered in the beginning of this year.
