Stern Tube Seals
Since 1995, Albwardy Marine Engineering has been the exclusive authorized Sales and Service agent for Kobelco Eagle Marine Engineering throughout the Gulf region.
Our service engineers have undergone comprehensive service training at Kobe Steel, Takasago, Japan for both Kobelco oil and Eagle water stern tube seals. They can competently undertake a variety of stern seal repairs, renewals & most recently conversions from the traditional Compact seal to the modern non-polluting Air sealing system. The AX type air seal has high reliability, ease of maintenance & low air consumption.
Completed a versatile stern tube seal afloat repair job on a 76000 dwt Product tanker in the anchorage of the Northern Emirate of Fujairah. Albwardy Marine Engineering is the only Kobelco Eagle stern tube seal authorized service station in the Middle East. The turnkey project included supply of our own workboat, erecting the necessary staging around the stern seal housing & the routine aft stern tube seal replacement afloat.
This was accomplished by ballasting the vessel to achieve a forward trim condition, allowing the stern tube seal to be clear of the water by 1 m. The on-site Kobelco service engineer, removed the rope guard, dismantled the seal housing & cut/removed the damaged sealing rings on the 800mm shaft. Using the Kobelco proprietary seal bonding process, 4 new sealing rings were vulcanized insitu, utilizing Kobelco supplied tools & heaters, along with a specially formulated Kobelco bonding adhesive. The seal housing was reassembled, the stern tube filled with oil & the system checked for leaks.
Albwardy Marine Engineering Fujairah, provided the necessary back-up in the form of precise maching of the extra length of housing securing bolts & quick delivery back to the vessel.
The entire project was performed in 36 hours, working round the clock, allowing the vessel to return to service in the shortest possible time, without the cumbersome necessity of dry-docking.
Albwardy Marine Engineering has performed the insitu bonding of the stern tube seals of several VLCCs afloat.
We have 6 full time Kobelco Eagle trained service engineers.We carry out service work afloat & in all the Middle East dry docks.
